ECCE 2015 was our biggest ever event, involving over 30 exhibitors and hundreds of guests over the two-day period. The theme, “The First is not always the Best,” explored the question of whether our children are able to properly understand and apply what they learn in class, as opposed to how good they are at preparing for and passing examinations with good grades. Dr. Marilyn Marbell-Wilson is a Neurodevelopmental Pediatrician. She has ten years experience as a medical doctor and six
years as a specialist pediatrician. She works at the Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital and also at Mission Clinic Ltd
– Pediatrics department.
Her specialty includes diagnosing and managing children with Learning Disabilities, intellectual disabilities, speech
and language issues, autism spectrum disorders and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) amongst others.
She is married with a son. She is also a Sunday School teacher and is passionate about children.
He worked with the Ghana Education
Service since 1985 in various capacities in
the past, including as a classroom teacher,
a housemaster, staff secretary and
Headmaster.
He Holds a Master of Science degree from
University of Bristol in Development
Administration and Planning and a Bachelor
of Arts and Diploma in Education from
University of Cape Coast.
He has rich experience in education
management having participated in all
the education reform programmes and
holding positions in the Ministry of
Education as Ag. Director of the PBME
Division and Coordinator of Development
Partners and Resource Mobilisation.
He was instrumental in the initiation of
interventions to enhance education
delivery and learning outcomes, such as
the School Mapping, the School Report
Card and its associated new planning
model that changed the structure of the
Annual Education Sector Operational Plan
(AESOP) for the Ministry of Education and
the Ghana Education Service.
He has international experience in
education, having served as the Board
Member for the Africa 3 Constituency in
the Global Partnership for Education, as
well as Member on the Financial Advisory
Committee and currently the Governance,
Ethics, Risks and Finance Committee.
He became Deputy Director-General and
the immediate past Ag. Director-General
of the Ghana Education Service. Currently,
he is the Ag. Executive Secretary for the
National Council for Curriculum and
Assessment (NCCA), a new body
responsible for the development of
curriculum and assessment of learning at
the pre-tertiary level of education.
Ambassador Dr. William George Mensah
Brandful is a retired career Foreign Service
Officer with thirty-five years of service in
Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional
Integration.
In his capacity as the Chief Executive Officer
of “The Brandful Institute”, he promotes investment
and offers customized Diplomacy training
with vision, focus and excellence. Ambassador
Brandful is also a trainer from the Ghana-based
Institute For Sustainable Reporting (ISR).
In 2013, Ambassador Brandful launched a book
entitled “Personal Reflections of a Ghanaian
Foreign Service Officer - Whither Ghanaian
Diplomacy”, which chronicles his career
experiences both as a contribution to
institutional memory and for posterity.
Ambassador Brandful served as Ambassador of
Ghana to Japan with concurrent accreditation
to Singapore as High Commissioner between
2011 and 2013. He also served as the High
Commissioner of Ghana to Zambia from 2008
to 2011, and has served in various roles during
his career at the Embassies of Ghana in Mali;
Germany and Benin.
He previously worked as Chief of Protocol and
Supervising Director, Policy Planning, Research
and Monitoring at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
and also serves as a Governor of the Millennium
Excellence Foundation and a Non-Executive
Board Member of the ANFD International;
He studied at Mfantsipim School (1964 – 71), the
University of Ghana (1971 – 75, including one
year abroad 73/74 at the University of Dakar,
Senegal), followed by post-graduate courses at
the Polytechnic of Central London; the
University of Nairobi, Kenya; the then
International Institute for Public Administration in
Paris (I.I.A.P.), known currently as École
Nationale d’Administration (ENA); and The
Hague Academy of International Law; and the
University of Paris XI, France, from where he
obtained a “Doctorat De Troisième Cycle”
in International Relations (January, 1986);
Ambassador Brandful speaks fluent French,
and is married with four adult children and four
grandchildren. As hobbies, he plays tennis, the
piano and golf.
Michael H. Attipoe started his career
as a Special/Personal Assistant to the
then PNDC Secretary of the Ministry of
Culture and Tourism in 1984, after he
completed his university education at
the University of Ghana.
In 1986, he rose to become the Acting
Director - Monitoring and Evaluation,
at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
In 1987 he was appointed Director of
Culture at the Centre for National
Culture (CNC) Accra.
In 1989, Mr. Attipoe was posted back
to the NCC as Director for Cultural
Programmes. In 1991, he joined the
Non-formal Education Division (NFED)
as Logistics Manager and later rose to
the position of Coordinator, Finance
and Administration in 2000.
Mr. Attipoe was transferred back to the
NCC and has since been the Director
of Finance and Administration till date.
He holds a Post Graduate degree in
Public Administration and has served
on several committees both in Ghana
and abroad, with organisations such
as NAFAC, PAWA, and UNWTO.
He is a board member for the NCC,
Chairman of the UNESCO Specialised
Committee on Culture, School of
Performing Arts Advisory Board (2012),
Member of Ghana Library Authority
Board (2009-date), PANAFEST board
(2010 - date), IMC chairman- National
Theatre of Ghana (2004) and Member
of National Theatre Board (2003).
His passion is to see the cultural sector
transformed to be a major contributor
in raising Ghana’s GDP. He is married
with three
children.
Clara is Coordinator, TVET for
Gender, and Persons with
Special Needs at COTVET.
Her role at
COTVET is to plan, coordinate, and
monitor the participation of Persons
with Special Needs (PSNs) in TVET as
well as promote the participation of
females in male dominated carriers
especially in the TVET sector. In this
regard, Clara’s major task is to
design and implement policies that
are aimed at promoting increased
entry of PSNs and females in
appropriate TVET programmes.
In addition, she is to monitor
compliance of TVET institutions with
laws regarding PSNs, and to remove
barriers to their participation in TVET.
Clara is a seasoned development
practitioner with a solid professional
teaching background; she joined
COTVET from GEMS Education
Solutions, Ghana where she was the
Community Engagement Lead. She
had previously worked with Oxfam
in Ghana as the Health Programme
Manager leading the Oxfam’s
policy advocacy and campaigns
works with Civil Society Organisations
and other partners.
With over a decade teaching
experience, Clara has taught at the
basic and secondary levels of
education. Clara holds a B.A in
Sociology with Theatre Arts, and M.A
in Social Policy Studies, both from the
University of Ghana. She is married
with two children.
